Professional Responsibility & Disclaimer

Version 1.0 · Effective October 28, 2026

This page sets out Codara's professional-responsibility terms in full. A shorter version of this notice appears with every calculator result, printout and report.

1. Purpose

Codara is a software platform provided by Codara Inc. ("Codara"). It offers calculation, Code analysis and workflow assistance to qualified design professionals preparing Ontario Building Code information. It is not a professional design authority. It performs calculations and organizes Code references to support — not replace — the user's own professional judgment. It does not produce a certified, stamped, or code-compliant result. If you are not a qualified design professional, you should retain one; Codara is not a substitute for professional services.

2. No professional relationship or responsibility

Use of Codara does not create an architect–client, engineer–client, or any other professional or advisory relationship between you and Codara. Codara does not assume the responsibilities of an architect, engineer, designer or other regulated professional, and no professional duty of care arises from your use of Codara.

3. Responsibility of the professional

The architect, engineer, designer or other professional responsible for a project remains solely and fully responsible for determining Code compliance, for exercising professional judgment, and for the designs, drawings, specifications, calculations, permit submissions and other documents prepared for the project, including every document they sign, seal or stamp. Codara does not review, approve, sign, seal or authenticate any of them.

4. Independent verification required

Every result, value, determination and citation produced by Codara must be independently verified before you rely on it, including before it is incorporated into any drawing, specification, permit application, report or other professional document. Verify it against the current, official text of the Ontario Building Code (O. Reg. 163/24, as amended), any applicable amendments, supplementary standards, bulletins or local requirements, and the facts of your project.

This requirement applies to every output, including an output that is incorrect because of a software error, outdated or incomplete information, an incorrect Code reference or an incomplete calculation.

5. Results can be wrong without warning

Codara may contain errors, omissions, software defects or out-of-date information. A result may be incorrect even where no error message, warning or other indication appears. The absence of a warning, notice or flagged issue does not mean that a result is correct, complete or Code-compliant.

6. Your information and assumptions

Codara's results depend on the information you enter, select, confirm or carry between calculators and projects, including your professional declarations and assumptions. You are responsible for that information. Codara does not independently verify it. Incorrect, incomplete or unsuitable information can produce an incorrect result even where the calculation itself is performed as programmed.

7. Applicable Code version

Codara computes against specific versions of the Ontario Building Code, which may differ between calculators and may not reflect every amendment in force. It is your responsibility to confirm which Code version and amendments apply to your project and jurisdiction, and that the results you rely on reflect them.

8. No official status; authority having jurisdiction governs

Codara is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Government of Ontario, any municipality, any professional association, or any authority having jurisdiction. Codara does not certify Code compliance or give official Code interpretations. The authority having jurisdiction (for example, the building official or plan examiner) has final authority over Code interpretation and permit approval.

10. Warranties and liability

This disclaimer describes professional use of Codara, the limits of the software and your responsibilities. The warranty disclaimers and limitations of liability that apply to Codara are set out in the Terms of Use, in particular Sections 16 and 17. If this disclaimer and the Terms of Use differ, the Terms of Use govern.

11. Changes

Codara may update or correct the Services and this disclaimer. Changes to features are made as described in Section 14 of the Terms of Use, and changes to this disclaimer in the same manner as changes to the Terms of Use (Section 20).
